Kareena Kapoor too signs a three film deal

Our stars never had it so good until corporate companies came in and started signing them for bulk films.

After UTV signed Priyanka Chopra (3 films), Shahid Kapur (2 films) and Anurag Basu (to direct 3 films) a few days back, it is learned that Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd has signed Kareena Kapoor for three films at an unheard of price.

The first of the three films will begin in November of this year. It is a sequel to 'Golmaal', titled 'Golmaal Returns' and will be directed by Rohit Shetty.

The other two films will roll out simultaneously and will be released before the first quarter of 2009.

Saif Ali Khan to do a cameo in Anurag Kashyap's No Smoking. Guess what, Bipasha is performing an item number in this John-starrer too

Saif Ali Khan

Bipasha Basu is doing an item number in Anurag Kashyap's No Smoking, starring former boyfriend John Abraham is stale news. The latest development is that Bipasha's 'close pal' Saif Ali Khan has been roped in to do a cameo in the film. Apparently, Saif has agreed to do the film only because Kumar Mangat, who had earlier produced Omkara, asked him to do so.

Anurag Kashyap says, "Kumar Mangatji, who shares a good rapport with Saif, suggested Saif's name to me when I was looking for an actor to appear in a significant but small scene."

SRK spends 10 minutes in silence in front of his mirror before shots

Shah Rukh Khan

If you have been wondering about Shah Rukh Khan's oh-so-cool composure and high energy levels, here is the lowdown. If sources are to be believed, the actor stares at the mirror for at least 10 minutes before stepping out of his make-up room and slipping into a shot. We wonder what goes on in his mind during the 'mirror' exercise.

Sources from the sets of Om Shanti Om have frequently spotted the actor standing in front of his mirror. During this time no one, including his loyal staff, is supposed to disturb him.

Says a crew member from the film, "That's his way of de-stressing himself and keeping his energy levels high. He is the most enthusiastic individual on our sets. Even at the end of the day he is all up and above."

Sienna's global warning!

Smile please: Sienna Miller with Salman Khan at the special screening of Partner

British actress and fashion icon, Sienna Miller came face-to-face with the airy ways of Bollywood janta on her recent visit to Mumbai. Eager to draw on Sienna's fame, our filmi personalities extended instant friendship to her and fell over each other asking her to attend their dos and screening.

Sienna, who is in the country to launch a save-the-planet campaign on behalf of Global Cool, an organisation dedicated to making youngsters aware of the burgeoning threat of global warming, is not very happy with the extra rounds of socialising that she is expected to do. Especially since the cause she's here to promote is always relegated to the background when she makes appearances.

Contrary to popular reports of the actress dancing to Bollywood tunes at Salman Khan's Bandra pad, Sienna was there barely for an hour. What's more, she was perplexed when brothers Salman and Sohail Khan almost sweet-talked her into being the chief guest at a special screening of their forthcoming film, Partner. A source close to Sienna says, "It was rather funny as we hardly knew anyone at Salman's house. So we left pretty early."

Yesterday, when Sienna arrived to attend the special screening Partner, she found her host missing. Salman arrived fashionably late at the venue. Sienna wasn't too pleased with the innumerable photo-ops that she had to do in the meanwhile. Later, she secretly left the venue when she wasn't given a chance to talk about the cause that she was promoting. An eyewitness says: "Sienna was in the elevator most of the time. She would be called down for photo-ops every time a star would turn up. The screening was at the third floor and the media was stationed at the ground floor. Naturally, she kept moving between levels. She wasn't even given a chance to talk about the cause that she is promoting."

During her interaction with this newspaper the actress clearly said that she has never been exposed to Hindi cinema. We asked her to pick a favourite from the desi filmstars (read Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Dino Morea, Anil Kapoor) she has met so far and prompt comes the reply, "I don't watch Hindi films. Naturally, I don't have a favourite as such."

The story doesn't end here. The actress was taken aback when photographers leapt at her when she arrived for a casual dinner at a Bandra restobar. Little did she know that her 'acquaintances from Bollywood' (read Dino Morea), who were also there at the restaurant, had ordered their agents to inform the media way in advance about her hush-hush nightout. Later, the actress rushed into a swish Bandra nightclub only to avoid the media glare.

• Sienna Miller's already tired of trying to smile at the dos of our filmi janta. She's expected to hobnob at social dos, watch Hindi films and facilitate photo-ops with Bollywood stars. (P.S: No one wants to talk about the cause she's here to promote)

Top 10 Bollywood Actresses Who Give Jessica Alba a Run for Her Money

The name “Jessica Alba” is not alien to people who know even a little about Hollywood. This American actress has already created a sensation with her hot and bold performance in movies such as “Dark Angel”, “Sin City” and “Idle Hands”. She is considered as a Sex Kitten because of the parts she played in all her movies.

However, there are a few Bollywood stars who really give Jessica a run for her money. They are hot, bold and gorgeous. Within a short period, they have taken the Bollywood by storm. These hot babes are most sought-after in the Hindi Film Industry today. Not surprisingly, some of them already got the ticket to Hollywood. We have listed the 10 top Bollywood actresses who are equated at par with Jessica Alba, the Hollywood “sex bomb”.

1. Jiah Khan

She has just one movie, ‘Nishabd’ to her credit and the industry is already ga-ga over the oozing bubbling beauty of Jiah Khan who was born in the year 1987 in New York and brought up in London. She has been brought up single-handedly by her mother Rabia, who is originally from Lucknow. Nishabd saw Jiah’s sensuous and sexy side and there is no denying to the fact that the girl has ample oomph appeal which is going to sweep Bollywood off its feet in the years to com. However, the gal says that it is her sexy jewelry i.e. a long chain round her neck which makes her appear hot and sensational.

2. Mallika Sherawat

She knows how to stay in news. Mallika Sherawat, formerly Reema Lamba, shocked Bollywood with her first film itself, giving as many as seventeen lip locks in the film. Bold in her clothes as well as in her candid talks, the actress has a body which she loves to flaunt. Hailing from Haryana she has a no. of films to her credit ranging from ‘Khwahish’. ‘Murder’, ‘Kis Kis Ki Kismat’, ‘Pyar Ke Side Effects’, Hollywood’s ‘The Myth’ and many more. With the image of a sex siren, noticed and criticized by one and many, Mallika had no qualms about any comment that come her way. Mallika sherawat always takes them as a compliment.

3. Aishwarya Rai

Born into a traditional South Indian family Aishwarya Rai popularly called as ‘Ash’ is one of Bollywood’s pre-eminent leading ladies. Her fanfare stretches from India to abroad. The lady has the looks and a body which can make any man weak in his knees. Though she has given many performances like ‘Devdas’, ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’, ‘Devdas’, etc. her hottest side was revealed with the flick ‘Dhoom 2’ where she looked stunningly beautiful and dead hot.

4. Sherlyn Chopra

What’s in a name said Shakespeare and how right he was. Does it matter whether it’s Mona, Maneka, or Sherlyn chopra as long as it is the same person and the person happens to be a sex bomb to rival Mallika. Talking about Sherlyn Chopra, the girl is the latest sex kitten of Bollywood giving an ample show of her skin in films like Dosti – Friends Forever, Timepass, and Naughty Boy with Rahul Roy. Though the films bombed at the box office the girl has not lost her confidence level and with the great body which she not at all keen to hide, she is no doubt a strong contender to any sexy babe of Bollywood.

5. Bipasha Basu

This light eyed, 5’8” high, dusky colored Bengali beauty started modeling at a very young age. She won the Ford Supermodel of the World contest at the age of seventeen; she was also named Tulips Miss Super Vivacious. She is consistently ranked as Asia’s sexiest women. The bong bombeshell appeared in the controversial film “Jism” where Bipasha together with John gave quite a hot and sizzling performance. The film marked the duo as sex symbols. Bipasha Basu following her image did quite a lot of hot and teasing roles in films like No Entry, Phir Hera Pheri, Omkara, Dhoom 2 etc.

6. Tanushree Dutta

Born on 19th March 1985, the Bengali beauty Tanushree Dutta is the latest heartthrob of Indian Film fans and a hot Bollywood property. Whatever be the truth, Tanushree has undoubtedly the x-factor which rightly puts her into the category of one of the sexiest babes of Bollywood.

Be it the obscenity charges for her gestures and skimpy costume at a stage show or her much publicized kiss with Mika she has always given ample masala for gossip columns.

8. Zeenat Aman

Zeenat Aman was truly the first sex bomb of Bollywood. Aman’s sultry persona was a contrast to many of the more conservative stars of the era. At a time when heroines were obedient wives and lovers on screen, Aman was drawn to more unique roles - she was cast as the opportunist who deserts her jobless lover for a millionaire (Roti Kapda Aur Makaan), the ambitious girl who considers aborting her baby to pursue a career (Ajnabee), the happy hooker (Manoranjan), the disenchanted hippie (Hare Rama Hare Krishna), the girl who falls in love with her mother’s one-time lover (Prem Shastra), and a woman married to a caustic cripple but involved in an extramarital relationship (Dhund). Jeenat Aman will always be remebered for her exposing roles in ‘Satyam Shivam Sundraram’ and ‘Qurbani’.

Nigar Khan, Norwegian born sex bomb, keeps hopping back into limelight time and again. Starting with skimpy music video of chadati jawani, topless appearances and her deportation from India, she shot to fame with her scantily clad appearance in the ‘Chadti Jawani’ remix video and numbers in the movies Rudraksh and Shaadi Ka Laddoo. Negar took part in the film Double Cross, in which she plays a pole dancer. Negar Khan achieved controversy for having posed topless on the cover of leading Norwegian men’s magazine Vi Menn althoug she denied it, saying that the picture was morphed.

Today Bips as she is fondly known is synonymous with 'bold roles,' in the changing face of Bollywood. She made her debut in AJNABEE, a multi-starrer, with Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol and Kareena Kapoor. From then there was no turning back. She was being flooded with offers. RAAZ opposite, then boyfriend, Dino Morea saw a wonderful performance by her. Mira Nair wants him to act with Johnny Depp in her forthcoming movie. It is based on a book by Gregory David Roberts. An escaped Australian convict who travels all over ends up in Mumbai's underworld.

Depp has consented to do the movie and Mira has approached Amitabh to play the role of the gangster called Kadar Bhai, who is Depps father figure and mentor. Amitabh has seen The Namesake and liked the film so most probably will be signing on the dotted line.

His Biography

The 'Angry young man' of the Hindi Cinema, The Shahenshah of Bollywood, The Uncrowned King of the Indian Film Industry, or quite simply, The Big 'B'. Amitabh Bachan is a phenomenon by himself. The actor, who won a 'star' status from his first hit, "Zanjeer", reigned over the film industry for over two and a half decades, and is still shining. In fact, shining brighter than the newest stars in the Galaxy called 'Bollywood'. But getting to this undisputed status was certainly not a cake-walk, for this simpleton from U.P.

Born on 11th October 1942, in Allahabad, Amitabh Bachan is the first of the two sons, a perfect blend of the intellect and strength. Of the east and the west. His father, Harivansh Rai Bachan, was an acclaimed peot and a writer, who came from a very eastern background and his mother, Teji, was from Karachi, a Sikh. After his schooling at Sherwood College, in Nainital, he moved to Delhi University to pursue his degree in Arts. Amitabh Bachan had to face rejections right after his graduation, from getting himself a worthwhile job, because of his introvert and shy nature. And finally, he left for Kolkata, where he secured the job of an executive, in a shipping firm .

But, after a few years in Calcutta, he realised that, all along, he had an immense interest in movies. Still very shy to make any effort, and after much contemplation and fighting within his mind whether or not to take the plunge, he finally chucked his job and landed himself in the 'Tinsel Town', and what followed that, is not the history of any individual, but that which changed the history of Bollywood itself. However, Amitabh Bachan had to taste his own share of failures in the form of flops and barely noticed films at the outset of his career, such as 'Saat Hindustani', 'Saudagar'etc., before exploding as the 'Angry young Man' in 'Zanjeer', which not only brought success to the Star, but changed the face of Bollywood for the next two decades. It was the beginning of the 'Amitabh Bachan Era'. He became the 'known by all' formula for hit movies, and movies with Amitabh Bachan, were none but hits. His charm, his charisma, not only tantalised the Indian audience, but Bollywood got notice and recognition even in the international arena, just because of the Big B. He became the 'un-appointed' Ambassador of Bollywood. He is inarguably, the most recognized faces in India and one of the most, across the globe. This became evident when he was estabilished as the star of the millennium, by a BBC poll, where the public placed him ahead of every other charismatic icon of the globe, past or present.

Amitabh Bachan has appeared in over 130 films, many of them, particularly those from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s, were huge hits. Every hit, bringing him closer to the masses. Because he portrayed the Man from every walk of life. The honest and the bold Police officer, the shy Lover, the angry and disappointed Youth, the Mine worker, the Singer, the Porter, the Waiter, the freedom fighter, the Politician fighting against corruption, and the list is endless. He was the people's own representative. Their Messiah. This became evident after his legendary accident during the filming of the movie, "Coolie". He had almost bid farewell to the mortal world, if not for the wishes and prayers of the millions of those masses. Many, who actually went through physical penance, for the recovery of their Hero. It was as if their life had come to a standstill, till he emerged, out of his Coma.

He had gone into hibernation from films for a few years when he ventured into politics, to lend support to his friend, Rajiv Gandhi. Amitabh Bachan fought and won the election for the Parliament from his hometown, Allahabad in 1984, but within a short span of time he had to 'call it quits', due to some bitter experiences. After this, the legend sported a beard, flaunted his grey hair and floated his company ABCL. Not finding much success in that and on the contrary, incurring huge losses, he finally returned to the silver-screen. During this period, he did his best in some not so successful films, but his mighty comeback was with the Indian version of the hit BBC show, "Millionaire", "Kaun Banega Crorepati" in Star Plus. This show not just proved the veteran's skills of being a unique and fabulous host, but also brought him back to the hearts of his people. This time, even coser. To their living room. The Big B was back with a Big Bang. Many such shows followed in the rival channels, but none could even get close to the show of the King. KBC had become a part of people's lifestyle.Their routine for four days a week. Where else would they get more time with to spend time with the star and if persistent, some even got to be at the show sitting face to face, with 'their' Amitabh, in flesh and blood.

Amitabh Bachan's professionalism is still treated as the benchmark for many in the industry. Overwhelmed by the star's professionalism, an Indian battery manufacturer, the brand that the actor had endorsed, is making plans to gift the Mega star with a Mega Birthday Card, on his 62nd Birthday. The card will be 2 km long and will have 2000 scrolls to it. And, it will be signed by 6 lakh retailers of that brand across India. The impact, this thespian has created, on people's minds, is beyond description. I still remember my childhood, when my mom used to comb my hair and when i used to make a fuss of that hairstyle, she would convince me by saying, "Beta, this is Amitabh Bachan's hairstyle." My mom never had a problem combing my hair after that. Such is the impression he leaves on us. It is not only immense, but eternal.

Amitabh Bachchan went through a very bad phase both financially and popularity wise after his movies started flopping in a row. 1999 was a very bad year for him, Lal Badshah, Hindustan Ki Kasam and Kohram all flopped. His company had undergone heavy losses, especially after the Miss world pageant - held in Bangalore.

His bungalow was threatened - it was to be auctioned by the bank to recover dues. His friends stepped in and with the signing of Kaun Banega Crorepati for Star his fortune turned. His empathy with the audience and grace and style with which he conducted the show, declared him as a winner in the race against time.

At this time he was signed by Yash Chopra for Mohabattein - this movie did very well and Amitabh won an award for best actor in a supporting role. His Ek Rishta too fared well. There was no stopping Amitabh now, he climbed new heights as the mature actor, sporting gray hair and comfortable in all the roles he played

He had a spate of releases in all the roles he won acclaim - Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gam was released in2001, followed by Baghban in 2003, Khakhee in 2004, Dev in 2004, Black in 2005, Bunty aur Babli in 2005, Sarkar in 2005 and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna in 2006. He won awards in most of his movies.

Bipasha-Ronaldo Kiss Leads To Breakup Between Bips & John

Ronaldo Kisses Bipasha

This was the real pictures showed on Times Now News Channel

“For two months I had been raving to my boyfriend John (Abraham) that I’d meet Cristiano at IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) awards. They had promised to make him walk with me. I was crushed when it didn’t happen. Who was to know that I’d party with him just weeks after IIFA,” said Bipasha.

“During dinner Cristiano told Bipasha that he was a big fan of Bollywood. “I thought he was just trying to be sweet. I told him he didn’t have to say he liked Bollywood films just to please me. Cristiano fished out his cell phone and made me hear ‘Tujhse naraaz nahin’ from ‘Masoom’. He said, ‘Now do you believe me?’”

“I’ve been Cristiano’s fan for five years. I haven’t yet told John the details of my partying with Cristiano. I will as soon as he returns from his outdoors.”

John Abraham is reportedly fuming over pictures showing his girlfriend Bipasha Basu locking lips with Man United Ace Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to sources Abraham, who recently declared his love for Basu amid rumours of a split, is said to have found the pictures on the internet.

“When John started surfing the net, he was shocked to see pictures of Bipasha splashed everywhere” a source told the Mumbai Mirror “Obviously, Bipasha had not informed him about this whole episode”

“John seemed very upset and what added to his misery was that everyone knew about the episode,”

Whilst the Bollywood starlet claims that the photo was taken out of context, Abraham is reportedly refusing to discuss the matter with anyone;

“Yesterday he only came out of his make-up room when he was called for the shot. He shot for the film, but it was very clear that he was very embarrassed” adds the source.

“It is still very unclear whether he had spoken to Bipasha after this news had come out."

Ronaldo strikes: John-Bipasha call it quits?

Bipasha- John

Mumbai, July 15: The rumours of Bipasha, John split are not new to the splitsville town but this time the rumours don’t seem to be just grapevine.

Why do we say that? Well, for anyone who is keenly following lives of these two stars, it is blatantly evident that all’s not well between them.

After the world’s most revered young footballer Cristiano Ronaldo kissed the Bengali beauty Bipasha Basu in a local club in Portugal, the split rumours gained strength. The intimate pictures of the two kissing and dancing were all over the place.

Bipasha Basu had reportedly claimed that those pictures were taken at an opportune moment but maintained that she was completely bowled over by the PFA Young Player of the Year 2007 and said that he was now a good friend and was keen on mailing her everyday.

Dark clouds hovered over the relationship when Indian film industry was abuzz with the news that Saif Ali Khan had shown keen interest in Bipasha and climbed high in her good books, industry insiders reveal. Latest in that string is that apparently Saif has changed his gym and shifted to Bipasha’s gym to spend more and quality time with her, post his break up with Italian heiress Rosa.

A year back the thaw in the celebrity couple was publicly visible when John and Vidya Balan co-starred for a Pankaj Advani film Saalam-e-Ishq. Sources from the industry disclose on terms of confidentiality that Bipasha-John relationship barely managed to keep floor ever since John was smitten by Vidya Balan’s beauty. Vidya Balan, now a close friend of John, recently commented on the relationship blues that John is facing “When two people are in a relationship and when media speculates on link ups that can put pressure on the relationship,” signaling that after all the rumours may just be true.

The split rumours ceased when John and Bipasha made a public appearance together on the celebrity show Koffee with Karan. During the promotion of their film Goal in Cannes everything seemed fine until there was a murmur that Bipasha supposedly commented that she is single after 10 years. Her secretary however refused to comment on this.

The Jism star dated Dino Morea before the relationship with John Abraham which went on for nearly five years.

Salman-Govinda combo is USP of 'Partner'

Salman-Govinda

New Delhi, July 16: Director David Dhawan has a knack for making successful comedies and he is back with another laugh riot called `Partner`, starring Salman Khan and Govinda.

The two actors team up for the first time in the film releasing Friday. The movie also has Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif who play partners to Salman and Govinda respectively.

The story is simple but with Salman playing the `love guru` giving tips to Govinda, it can be an interesting watch. While former plays a super cool stud, the latter will be seen as a simpleton.

The film revolves around Salman who is a love guru and earns his livelihood by helping men woo the women of their dreams. His tips always work because the way he understands a woman`s likes and dislikes, nobody else does.

The real fun begins when Salman meets Govinda and takes him under his wing and starts giving him training to impress Katrina, the rich and famous daughter of an industrialist.

After going through many hurdles in a comic series, Govinda finally wins Katrina`s love.

So far so good. But there is a twist in the tale - Salman faces a real challenge in the form of Lara Dutta, the one woman he truly loves. She works for a newspaper as a journalist and none of his tricks work on her.

The film`s USP is the Govinda and Salman team. They are coming together for the first time and trade pundits say they will crackle on screen.

Dhawan`s `Shaadi No.1` was a moderate success, so he has put his heart and soul into making it a box office success.

BREAKING NEWS:- Sonu Nigam alleges sexual harassment by senior journalist

Sonu Nigam

New Delhi, July 16: In an exclusive interview with Zee News, Sonu Nigam dramatically spilled the can of dirty worms of our entertainment fraternity that is well known for it’s homosexual connections.

Fed up with continuous lewd calls and mobile text messages, Nigam came in front of the television cameras and named a renowned senior entertainment journalist, Subhash K Jha, who is a well-known figure in the Bollywood circle.

Sonu Nigam said, “He used to harass me with his homosexual desires to an extent that my family was affected. We all know that the film industry consists of many gays and homosexuals. Even I have many gay friends but they have never tried to come close to me because they know that I am not interested in it. But in this case, he used to send me weird messages and talk nonsense on the phone.”

Elaborating about an incident that took place when Nigam was a part of the Indian Idol judge panel, he said, “He was calling Farah Khan and Anu Malik during an Indian Idol show. I was a little busy so I didn’t receive his call. Later, Jha called me up again and said that he loved me a lot, so I should pick up his call.”

Talking about the usual film industry struggle, Sonu accepted that many young actors and musicians are asked to go through different favours. He said, “During my struggle days, I used to meet many song composers but luckily nothing like this happened with me. Young actors and models do go through all these favours.”

Speaking about a particular incident when Jha proposed him, Nigam said, “In 2001, he proposed me and said that he loves me. He even misbehaved with me after getting drunk but later apologised in the morning. I even told him that you are Lataji’s friend and elder to me so please don’t talk such things with me as I’m not gay. But he still continued harassing me with his calls.”

Nigam blasted in front of the media today and said, “I’m not a fool that I don’t understand his intentions. I’m not a villager that I don’t know whatever is happening. I even told him about my girlfriends but slowly and slowly when he did not get any positive response from my end, he started criticising me in his articles and his feelings got bitter towards me.”

When asked about his last text message, Sonu said, “He messaged me 3 months back and stated that he missed me. He also wrote that he was impressed with my audacity on which I asked him to meet me if he wants to see my audacity. The way he wrote was sexual harassment. People in our country should know that such things also happen here. A man can also bother another man like this. I just want him to stop bothering me. He is gay, I have no problems, it’s his life but I’m not like him and he should stay away from me.”

Sonu’s anger was visible as he said, “I started avoiding his calls because I was troubled by him. On top of that he wrote an article against me that was titled, ‘The King of Ego’. I have many journalist friends and they have all have been nice people. On the one hand today’s journalists are slogging hard and doing an amazing job for the country and on the other hand, people like Jha are tarnishing journalism. Jha is the same person who praised me after the release of my film “Love in Nepal” but after getting no response from me, he started criticising me. He always gets drunk with everyone and misbehaves in the night and then calls up in the morning to apologise.”

Sonu Nigam’s allegations against a senior entertainment journalist are one of the few man-to-man celebrity sexual harassment cases that have hit the limelight in India. Homosexuality is prevalent in the glamour world but such a serious allegation against a known figure speaks volumes about ‘favours’ in the glamour world. The Casting Couch Syndrome can also victimise men and not women alone.

While Shah Rukh Khan hobnobbed with others around, wife Gauri, who was in a rollicking mood, posed for pictures patiently and gladly. She almost seemed to be in the mood for getting her portfolio done, so gladly did she pose for pictures! After a round of air kissing, the couple camped in a corner with friends Karan Johar and Preity Zinta who had come with beau Ness Wadia. Preity, dressed in all-black, sported wind-blown hair.

Lensman and wife

Unlike Gauri, Avanti Birla wasn't shutterbug friendly at all. She not only refused to get herself clicked, but also asked photographers to delete any pictures they had clicked of hers. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan's better half, could have done with a better outfit. Kiran Rao, the surprise guest at the party, was seen clad in a boho costume with a bandana hiding her lovely curls. Mandira Bedi came in with husband Raj Kaushal and stuck to his side all evening.

The singles mingle

Newly-single Kelly Dorjee was seen engrossed in deep conversation with fellow member of the newly-singles club, Rozza Katalino. Now, what were they discussing? Later, he took some time to charm other ladies as well. On the lookout already Kelly? Dino Morea found company in friend Amrita Arora (single by default since boyfriend Usman Afzal wasn't around).

Kelly & Dino

Mood swings

Amisha Patel, accompanied by director Vikram Bhatt, was in an amicable mood for a change. She joked and laughed a lot, which she hasn't been doing lately. Then there was Mohit Ahlawat and Prashant Raaj, Ram Gopal Varma's former and current favourites, respectively. We expected fireworks between them, but much to our disappointment, they behaved like friends.

The shooting of Mera Bharat Mahaan had to be stopped since the unit ended up damaging crops while filming their scenes

Preity Zinta

The shooting of Mera Bharat Mahaan was stalled in Roopnagar, Chandigarh, a couple of days ago and the unit was forced to return to Mumbai. Reportedly the unit of the film was not only shooting without the necessary permissions, it also destroyed a lot of crops in the area, during the process of shooting. Apparently the unit also misbehaved with the local farmers of Roopnagar. Salman Khan and Preity Zinta were the actors present.

When contacted, Alok Shekhar, District Magistrate of Chandigarh, confirmed the news. He said, "We had to stop the shooting according to rules (144 CRPC). Although the unit had applied for permission for shooting in the area, they were yet to get the permission from the court. The unit didn't wait for this. They went ahead and shot in Roopnagar. That was why we had to stop the shoot."

When we asked him about the repercussions of shooting on the fields and about the reports of crops being destroyed, Shekhar said, "We did get complaints about crops being damaged during the shooting. There were also complaints about unit members misbehaving with the local farmers. I have already asked for a complete report on this issue and I hope to get it soon."

However, Vikas Kapoor, the producer of the film rubbished the news. He said, "There was just a little miscommunication and the police came and asked us to show them the permission letter. When we showed them the letter, there was no problem. We shot the scenes quite smoothly. The entire unit is back in Mumbai now."

When asked about the problems they had with farmers and about crops being destroyed during the shooting, Kapoor added, "I don't know about any such incident."

Sanjay Dutt quits White Feather Films, the company he has fostered along with his jigri buddy Sanjay Gupta. Does it mean the friendship is also over?

Sanjay Dutt with Sanjay Gupta

It has been a tumultuous time for Sanjay Dutt. Even as he waits for the court to finally pass a verdict on his long-pending cases related to the 1992 Bombay blasts, Dutt has rushed off a resignation letter to White Feather, the company he has fostered along with his jigri buddy and long-standing business associate Sanjay Gupta.

Sanjay Dutt with Sanjay Gupta

"The letter arrived in the afternoon on Saturday," informs a stunned Gupta. "I rang up Sanju immediately to ask him what it was all about. He explained that he had to take this drastic step in the light of his court cases. For legal reasons, he cannot be shown to be part of a corporate company like White Feather. I totally understand that."

Whatever Gupta may say, there's bound to be speculations about the Dutt-Gupta friendship now.

Laughs Gupta, "People can go on and on putting two and two together, and coming up with any number. Sanju's decision to quit White Feather has no bearing on our personal relationship. He is and will be my friend. Even our professional rapport remains the same. We're currently shooting Alibaug together. There's no change in that. Of course, people will have a field day speculating about the reason for his exit from White Feather. Kuch to log kahenge (people will talk). Let them talk. Sanju and I know the truth."

Rumour has it that Dutt was unhappy with some of the staffers at White Feather? Gupta explains, "That is right. But we got rid of the undesirable elements. Next, people will say Sanju left because of the rumour that I haven't paid some of the crew from White Feather. That's rubbish. Sanju is emotional but not foolish."

Shoaib Akhtar and Adnan Sami co-star in a commercial

Shoaib Akhtar and Adnan Sami are not an odd couple. Both enjoy music and cricket. Their passions and interests are put together in an advertisement featuring them in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Their fans caused shooting to be stopped for a few hours and the police had to be called.

The new ad shows Adnan Sami in search of his drink and not getting it. He sees a crowd gathered around someone. Curious, he walks towards the mob and finds Shoaib in company of fans, not surprisingly girls, drinking what Sami wanted. Sami remains without the drink.

The next scene shows the two in the plane and when both ask for soft drinks, Shoaib it while Sami gets its diet version. When the singer objects he is told that despite shedding 100 odd kilos he still needs a diet one.The two have worked in a commercial for the same firm before.

The unit members of Vikram Bhatt's Mumbai Salsa almost lost their lives when the sets came crashing down on them three times

Before the sets collapsed

They say that good things come in threes. But filmmaker Vikram Bhatt would beg to differ after the shooting of his film Mumbai Salsa was cancelled due to the film's set collapsing thrice.

The unit was shooting at a suburban hotel when the set came crashing down a number of times resulting in a loss of Rs 15 lakh. While the unit continued to shoot when the sets crashed twice, they decided to stop when the mishap happened again, the third time, as the cast and crew began fearing for their lives.

Vikram Bhatt says, "Yes it was terrible and a lot of time was wasted. The hotel is under construction and I guess the ceiling gave way due to these heavy rains. Thankfully, no one was hurt. The wooden ceiling came crashing down. Then it fell again after being repaired once. It finally crashed again the third time and the ceiling almost fell on some of my unit members. That's when we decided to shift the location. We were initially planning to have to more sets at the same hotel but we have changed our mind and now we are shooting at some other location. I guess it was due to the rains that the sets crashed. It wasn't anyone's fault."

The film's co-producer Surendra Sharma says, "It was a big problem. We lost a lot of money and had to shift the location to Shankraman Studios. The set at the hotel was completely wasted. When the ceiling came down the third time, it almost killed six people who were sitting there. They were saved as they left that place when the electricity went off just two minutes before the ceiling collapsed. We suffered a loss of around Rs 12-15 lakh due to this."

After 'Beedi jalai le', Bipasha Basu will do another item number in a Vishal Bharadwaj film

Bipasha Basu

After the chartbuster 'Beedi jalai le' Bipasha Basu is all set to do another rocking number in Kumar Mangat and Vishal Bharadwaj's No Smoking. What's interesting is that she will feature in a John Abraham-starrer, albeit in an item number.

Bipasha says, “ Yes, I will do this song. I love Vishal Bharadwaj’s compositions after ‘Namak’ and ‘Beedi’. He has again offered me a great song. It’s also special because it’s John’s film. Anurag had offered me the film but I couldn’t do it. I am glad that I could at least do a song for him.”

Kumar Mangat says, "Yes we have spoken to Bipasha and she is very keen to do the song. We just have to finalise the finer details now."

After the Beedi song, Bipasha seems to be the perfect choice for an item number. Director Anurag Kashyap says, "Yes, it is true that she will be doing the item number. We wanted a sexy girl with a lot of oomph and who better that Bipasha? Kumarji and Vishal had earlier worked in Omkara's 'Beedi jalai le' and their combination was rocking. That's why we chose Bipasha again. The song will be picturised on Bipasha only, and no one else. We are going to shoot the song next month and the rest of the details are being worked out."

No Smoking stars Ayesha Takia along with John Abraham.

So far Ram Gopal Varma said he was filming a remake of Sholay. Now, what's happened to him?

Ajay Devgan in the new Sholay

A still from the original Sholay

Times have changed in one year, so has the tune. Over the last one year, we have heard a lot about Ram Gopal Varma Ke Sholay, about Sholay being remade. Now comes the whammer. Now Ram Gopal Varma says, "Sholay is my first original film."

Is he serious? Evidently he is. "I haven't made a single original film till Sholay. Every scene shot and frame of my earlier films have been copied from some source or the other. It could be a novel, a Hollywood movie or an old Hindi film. If I haven't been caught out it's because people haven't been able to locate my sources," says Ramu.

So then, what is this 'original' Sholay about? Sholay, says the incorrigible Ramu, isn't an underworld film. He adds, "It's almost a throwback to the kitschy films of the 1970s, like Nasir Husain's Yaadon Ki Baraat or Chori Mera Kaam. It isn't either a gangster film or a dacoit drama. The original Sholay created an excitement by giving the audience one slammer of a scene after another. I hope to do the same."

Shall we rewind to last year, and remind Ramu about the things he said then? Here goes: "When I decided to remake Sholay, I had thought of Amitabh Bachchan playing a role; I am very thrilled that he is now playing Gabbar Singh. According to me, Gabbar was the hero of Sholay, though he was portrayed as the villain. After Sholay released, Gabbar became a legend. Only the biggest star today can play that role now," he had said.

He had also said, "I want to keep the film as close to Sholay as possible." And, on another occasion, "Sholay is a classic and I would like Ram Gopal Varma Ke Sholay to have the intensity and grit of the original. It's just that the setting is different."

A still from the original Sholay

Is it Sasha Sippy's case against him, securing the rights to the title of the film and the names of the characters, that has made the filmmaker change his tune to this extent? As things stand today, Ramu cannot use the word 'sholay' in the title. Nor can he call his characters by the same names. So, Basanti is called Ghungroo, while Gabbar's name is still being decided. According to reports, the options being thrown up are Ajgar, Babban...

And now we hear the film is not a remake at all, it's Ramu's first 'original' film. Wonders never cease in Bollywood.

Kelly Dorjee, who had been living in with Lara Dutta in Bandra, has now moved to Malad, after they broke off recently

Lara with Kelly in a file photo

As the song goes, 'cuts like a knife, but it feels so right'. That's what Kelly Dorjee must be saying after his eight-year-old relationship with Lara Dutta ended recently. After the steadiest couple in Bollywood broke up, Kelly has moved out of their Bandra house and is now staying in Malad.

The couple had been living in together at St Paul's Road, Bandra, for the last three years, ever since Lara did her debut film Andaaz. Lara had bought the apartment soon after the release of the film.

A source close to Kelly says, "Kelly and Lara had a steady relationship for around eight years. In all these years, they never had any problems until very recently. They were an ideal couple. However, of late cracks had begun to develop in their relationship and they were fighting very often."

Earlier, Kelly and Lara were always seen together at social dos. Reportedly, the relationship soured when Kelly disapproved of Lara's close bonding with her male co-stars. The fact that Kelly's filmi career never took off further impacted the relationship.

"We don't know whose fault it is and why they broke off but it was pretty evident that they had started having differences over everything. After the break-up, Kelly moved out of Lara's house and is staying at a rented apartment in Malad. He wants to concentrate on his career and do better films," adds the source.

Both Kelly Dorjee and Lara Dutta remained unavailable for comment.

Boman will play the lead role in Little Zizou

Boman Irani Smiling

Boman Irani is playing the lead role in writer-turned-director Sooni Taraporewallah's Little Zizou. The film, featuring Shernaaz Patel and Naseeruddin Shah's son Imaad, has got Boman Irani excited. He says, " Sooni has written many of Mira Nair's films and is a darling woman. This one is an English film. Though it revolves around the Parsi community and I do play a Parsi, I haven't come across any character like the one I play in Little Zizou."

Boman has played the role of a Parsi many a time but he claims that this character is different. He says, "I played an atrocious human being in Homi Adjani's Being Cyrus. Comparatively, this time I'm on a morally correct ground. My character dances, laughs has fun and shares his happiness with others."

Boman is also looking forward to Raju Hirani's next Munnabhai film. He says, "While Munnabhai and Circuit remain the same in every film, my character gets to be a different person each time. What fun!"

Konkona and the unit members of Laaga Chunari Mein Daag only thought, ate and talked about yummy Bengali food on the sets

Konkona and Kunal Kapoor in Laaga Chunari...

Guess what Konkona remembers of her entire schedule of the shooting for Pradeep Sarkar's Laaga Chunari Mein Daag? Of all the things, she fondly remembers the spoonfuls of Bengali cuisine.

"There was a constant inflow of Bengali cuisine on the sets. Since all of us were Bengali, everyone spoke in rapid-fire Bengali," she recalls.

The bong bonding often left hard-core punjabi munda Kunal Kapoor scratching his head wondering what was being said. Laughs Konkona, "I just loved the food and the atmosphere on the sets of Laaga Chunari… And I really like Kunal Kapoor. We've done two back-to-back Yash Raj Films Aaja Nachle and Laaga Chunari…. I'm very comfortable with him. Laaga Chunari … is a very vibrant film and it was fun because it took us to Varanasi, Switzerland and Mumbai. And yes, I'm going to miss the warmth of the unit."

After having completed her current assignments Konkona is looking forward to a much deserved break. She will holiday in France for a week.

"I love holidays and look for any excuse to go abroad. Whatever I've in life I make the best of it. I'm off with my friends for a week," she says.

Her new assignments will have to wait till she returns from her break. One of her new projects would be a film with her mother. She says, "After my mom's done with The Japanese Wife we plan to work together again next year. Did I miss working with her in The Japanese Wife? Not at all! She must work with other actresses, just as I'm working with other directors."

Would her mom and she collaborate on a Hindi film? "Not necessarily. Why in Hindi? I don't think the language of the film should be important. I started with Bengali films and came to Hindi cinema by chance. I've just completed a Bengali film. As long as it's an interesting film, I don't care whether it's in English, Hindi or Bengali."

Vikram Bhatt is now making a period horror film. Is it an answer to the sequel of Raaz to be directed by Mohit Suri?

The two Bhatts, Mahesh and Vikram, were not on talking terms for a long time. However, after Mahesh Bhatt announced the sequel to Vikram Bhatt's 2002 super hit Raaz with Mohit Suri as the director, Vikram, the original director, too has a period horror up his sleeves. The film, titled 1920, is the first to be made under the banner of Vikram's production company, ASA Films.

Vikram Bhatt asserts that his film, 1920, is nothing close to Raaz and the only common aspect is the supernatural bit. He says, "As far as I am concerned my film is completely different from Raaz. My film has a different name, different setting and it has a different subject altogether. I don't carry the responsibility of bettering Raaz as the sequel is being directed by Mohit Suri and I wish him all the best.

thrillers. I have been writing this script from the last eight months and it is very close to my heart. The script which is better than Raaz.1920 is a very ambitious project and this is the first film that I will be directing under my banner ASA Films with my friend Surendra Sharma."

Speaking about the film Vikram says, "It is a ghost story set in the 1920s. The film travels right through to Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow, Kanpur and Missouri and I have almost finalised the cast. They are all newcomers but I will announce it soon. Adnan Sami will be giving music for the film. I have not shot for over eight months now and I am dying to get behind the camera. We will be putting up huge sets showing Mumbai and Delhi of 1920s and I guess that will be very challenging." The film will commence in August end.

Mahesh Bhatt’s Vishesh Films is set to produce shows on television

After producing films for over 18 years, Mahesh Bhatt’s Vishesh Films is now going to hit the small screen. The producer has been getting offers from Star Plus and Sony. If all goes well, the production house will produce an hour long weekly mini-series.

Vishesh Bhatt, Mahesh Bhatt’s nephew cum Executive producer of Vishesh Films, says, “My firm has been in talks for a while now as many channels have been approaching us. We are putting our ideas into place for now. Daily soaps are not our forte. We are looking at content oriented, high drama television features or mini-series. We will have a screenplay format on a cinematic genre minus the songs. I think channels have approached us because our films are low cost, have new talent, good music and good writing. All this will go down well with television.”

Like Bhatt’s films, the focus will be on fresh talent. Vishesh says, “Of course, we will search for a lot of fresh talent and hold auditions on a bigger scale.” Vishesh Films is currently producing three movies - Dhokha, Showbiz and Jannat.

Preity Zinta, Sohail Khan and Vatsal Sheth

Preity Zinta, Sohail Khan and Vatsal Sheth decided to make the best of their time while they were stuck in a nine-hour-long flight to Chandigarh

When Preity Zinta, Sohail Khan and Vatsal Sheth recently took a flight from Mumbai to Chandigarh little did they know that they’d be stuck in the flight for a really long time. The journey, which otherwise takes a little less than 3 hours took over 9 hours to reach its destination thanks to incessant Mumbai rains. All these three actors had to report for the outdoor shoot of Sameer Karnik’s film Mera Bharat Mahaan.

Vatsal Sheth says, “It was one hell of a flight. It was totally unbelievable. It was raining heavily that day but we were told that the flight will be on schedule. It was a 10.30 am flight from Mumbai and we checked in as per schedule. However the flight refused to take off and we were stranded. Even the air-conditioning was not functioning and it was very hot and stuffy inside the aircraft.”

It was good 5 hours later when the flight moved and moved till the runway and after that there was more bad news. The pilot informed that the runway was damaged due to water glitch on the runway and so they had to take a secondary runway which took another thirty minutes.

l-r: Vatsal Sheth and Sohail Khan

“Finally the flight took off and we heaved a sigh of relief. But we didn’t know that there was more torture in store for us. The flight could not land at Delhi airport due to heavy traffic. We circled around for nearly one hour before the flight finally landed at Delhi before taking off for Chandigarh. We finally reached Chandigarh at 7.45 pm and I guess this was a flight which took us longer that it does to reach another country. It was really a bad day,” says Vatsal.

He further adds, “Thankfully I had Sohail and Preity with me and we chatted endlessly and then we all decided to take a nap. After the nap when we had still not reached the destination, we all decided to rehearse our scenes and since we had lot of screen space in the film. It was great that we took this time to rehearse the scenes. I guess in these nine hours we did practically everything that we could do to while our time away. At the end of the day it was only because of Preity and Sohail that I managed to survive. Imagine if one of us was alone on the flight.”
